About me

About me...

(Picture of me near Mueller Hut route in NZ)

Hi!! My name is Ryu Sugai, I am a undergraduate student at the University of Melbourne. I was born in Japan, but I mostly lived my life in South East Asian countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia. I love to go hiking and camping either alone or with some friends, which was inspired by a family trip to Kenya when I was 8 years old. The night sky with 0 light pollution was astonishing and the scenery still lives inside me. I do not usually write blogs but I do post pictures on instagram and write a small comment about my camping trip.

A quote about travel from Pico Iyer's blog that I agree with is "I, at least, travel in search of an innocent eye that can return me to a more innocent self". As a person who loves just being outdoors, I tend to see myself noticing the art of nature, whether it be the plants, insects or colors of the sky. I feel that in the city, I am preoccupied with the busy streets and thus, traveling (outside the city or country) in search for peace and tranquility has made me connect back to my innocent self. Nevertheless, whenever I travel, I aim to interact with locals and or other fellow travelers and hear their adventure stories.

The country that I will be specializing is Kyrgyzstan, a place enclosed by mountains with semi-nomadic lifestyles and rich culture. The reason I chose this country is because the snowy mountains with the mix of flat plains as seen in the image below sparked interest in me as a hiker. The nature of my travel blog will be heavily oriented to outdoor activities since that is my hobby, and my blog will be written to inspire other like-minded outdoor explorers to visit Kyrgyzstan.
